Day 21 Seen Uptown
We seem to have some classic car owners here in town. One afternoon while out with the kids we saw several parked at a hotel. I just had to stop and take some photos!
↠After browsing several websites over the weekend, I became convinced that I needed to take more time on these daily sketches and not hurry so much to be finished. After all, why am I rushing ?!! The whole point is to be honing my skills, not just "getting it done" - like I have said, Art is a discipline and I am learning a lot about myself as I go along.↞
Day 22 Bistro Cacao, Washington DC
This no erasing pen sketch took approximately 2 hours to complete. We went to this restaurant during our fall vacation last year. We had parked some way off from Union Station where we were taking a bus tour, and as we walked along we passed by a row of little places and decided to stop here for lunch. We dined outside under one of the large umbrellas on the brick paved patio. It was interesting to watch all the people coming and going, and fun to try some different cuisine! Clumsy me, I knocked a bread plate off our glass table and it broke on the brick paving.
On a whim, I decided to post my drawing on Bistro Cacao's Facebook page for visitor posts, and they reposted it on their main page with a nice comment about my sketch!
Day 23 Work Jeans
Trust me to go from not taking enough pains, to biting off more than I can chew! I developed an ache in my shoulder from working so long on this one! I bought a new Micron 005 ink pen and began to wonder if I would use up all the ink in it before finishing! 😃 I worked a very long time on this, probably at least 3 hours, before I had to call it an evening and stop. I decided to go ahead and post this unfinished work so you can see a few of the steps I had to go through to get the effects I hoped to capture.
Day 24 Work Jeans {completed}
I was feeling very motivated the next morning after staying up so late working on this sketch, and I got right to work and completed this by 9:00 a.m. As for my aching shoulder, I had to sit a long time in my recliner with an electronic back massager to help ease the pain. I guess I was pretty tensed up hunched over the kitchen table with my new little very-fine-tipped pen. Just for fun, I put this up on Facebook and asked my friends to suggest a title. I got several responses, some I did not quite understand! I decided to go with my (un)original thought of Work Jeans.
Day 25 Word of Mouth Bistro, Salem
This little place that does not advertise has some GREAT food! When I went to be with my oldest daughter when her baby was due, she and her husband took me to eat here on a Sunday afternoon, along with her sister-in-law. It is a kitschy little place, very different style of decor inside, with lots of fun sayings and paintings placed around. The food was really extra good. My daughter began having stronger labor pains during our meal and we finally decided to leave early, 'just in case.' Of course we took our unfinished portions along. We did end up 'going in' that evening and my new grandson was born the next morning! We all stayed up the whole night in the birthing center.
After my successful post on Facebook for the DC restaurant, I decided to see if this place had a page, also. I found it and decided to post my drawing on their visitor post section to see what would happen. The owner of the restaurant commented on my little pen sketch, so I was glad again that I had shared my little drawing with the establishment I had visited and made such a wonderful memory. I hope when I go back to Oregon someday to return to this fun place with the wonderful food!
(my new pen!)
