Summer Sidewalk
Micron ink
This ink drawing was just finished this afternoon, and I already have it in a frame as I am planning to enter it in our State Fair next month. The rules stipulate that entrants can only enter one item in any one class, so I was gung-ho to finish another type of entry to take along with the watercolor painting I am submitting. I would have liked to do another watercolor! The reference photo for this was taken a few years ago when my children and I were visiting my mother down south. There is a great little place to eat a few blocks away from her house, and the kids wanted to skate there for lunch one day. Strawn's Eat Shop has marvelous pies, and their other offerings are delicious, also. I walked behind as they skated ahead of me and I was struck with the view and snapped a photo. When we got inside to a table, the waitress was a little disturbed that the kids had rollerskates on and told them not to walk around in them. We sat as near to the door as we could, because of course they had not brought any shoes along for changing. Needless to say, we never tried skating to any of the other destinations that are close to mother's house. The children have always enjoyed bike riding in her neighborhood, and I feel pretty safe letting them out of my sight there LOL. Now that my mother is gone, we probably won't be having many more excursions in this neighborhood. We made many memories there and it is sad to think that those days are over for good.
